Waist
Measure across the garment at the natural waist and double the measurement.
Length
Measure from the center of the shoulder seam to the hem in a straight line.

fantastic jacket
I LOVE this jacket! I purchased the ALC Sedgwick and Hicks jackets and I prefer the Hicks jacket. I just need to get the sizing right on both styles. The Hicks is heavier than expected and more structured. It is also smaller than expected in the bust and the armpit area is cut a little higher in this area compared to the Sedgwick. The sleeves are also a bit long. The jacket has a bit of a drop shoulder with shoulder pads as well. I took a size 8 as a 34D and it fits well except when I bring my arms up, I can feel tightness in the back of the jacket but it's not super restricting, if that makes sense. I can also button the jacket comfortably without any pulling. It also has a slight taper at the waist but not as much as the Sedgwick. I am trying the size 10 to see how it compares to the 8. The best part of this jacket are the colors - it is a very neutral palette and goes with absolutely everything!
